Catalog-No.

EA005/96

Enzyme immunoassay for detection and quantification of
myeloperoxidase autoantibodies in serum

Format

12 x 8 single break apart well microtiter strips (96 determinations)

Clinical Fields

Internal medicine (Nephrology, Rheumatology, Pulmonology), Immunology

Diseases

 vasculitis-associated crescentic glomerulonephritis
  * idiopathic crescentic glomerulonephritis
  * microscopic polyangiitis
  * panarteritis nodosa
  * Churg-Strauss syndrome
  * polyangiitis overlap syndrome

Specificity

99 % for above listed diseases

Sensitivity

77 % to 100 % of patients with idiopathic and vasculitis-associated crescentic glomerulonephritis show myeloperoxidase or proteinase 3 autoantibodies *Falk et al., N. Engl. J. Med. 318 (1988) 1651-1657; Cohen Tervaert et al., Kidney Int. 37 (1990) 799-806*

Characteristics

specific detection of MPO antibodies due to the use of highly purified myeloperoxidase as antigen
* no false-positive results caused by contaminations like lactoferrin or elastase in the antigen preparation
* MPO antibodies can not be detected by indirect immunofluorescence; only about 10% of P-ANCA findings with ethanol-fixed granulocytes are caused by anti-MPO
*Cohen Tervaert et al., Arthritis Rheum. 33(8) (1990) 1264-1272*
* follow-up control of disease activity by quantitative results
* parallel processing with the Anti-PR 3-ELISA for detection of proteinase 3 autoantibodies is possible; many of the reagents can be used from either of the kits
